Alex Aitken is the laboratory manager for the Molecular Laboratories at The Natural History Museum, London, with responsibilities for running and maintaining the lab resources; space, equipment, consumables and finances. Alex has over 25 years experience working in the molecular biology field; molecular genetics, genetic engineering, proteomics, transcriptomics. She routinely teaches, trains and supervises students and visitors to the lab in molecular techniques and also runs workshops and training events. Alex’s research is mainly based on establishing new protocols for the Museum and working with difficult specimen material, but she also assists with the molecular component of several projects currently in progress within the lab as well as performing consultancy work.
