Irina is a bioinformatician in non-vertebrate genomics at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). Her work in Ensembl Genomes currently focuses on Culicoides sonorensis, the biting midge, for which she is working on the de novo assembly and gene annotation. She is fascinated to see how the white fly project develops and what insights its assembly and annotation will reveal. Irina’s PhD from the University of Cambridge was on identifying protein complexes in Drosophila melanogaster using affinity purification, mass spectrometry and machine learning.
